Teens
Adolescence is a time of great changes as it implies going through puberty.
As a transitional stage of human development, adolescence is the period in which a child matures into an adult.
This transition involves biological, social, and psychological changes.
It is a period of intense growth, not only physically but morally and intellectually.
It's understandable that it's a time of confusion and upheaval for many and a time when many issues surface.
One of the most important issue is “Identity”.
“Who am I” is the pressing question of the moment.
From birth to the beginning of adolescence, children have relied on outside messages to define their worth and competence.
It is the quality of those messages which in turn define the quality of their self-esteem.
If a child engages into adolescence with a fragile self-esteem he is most vulnerable to outside pressures.
Developing self-esteem is the key to recovery and healing.
“If you deny and disown pieces of who you are-your thoughts, feelings, or actions-because they do not fit your "official" self-concept, you damage your self-esteem. You send yourself a message that who you really are is not good enough.”— Nathaniel Branden
