“What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us are tiny matters compared to what lives within us.” — R.W. Emerson

Welcome to Inner Minds.

My Mission with “Inner Minds” is to bring in the awareness that we are all in control of our thoughts, whether good or bad, and that we have the ability to change our thought pattern.
We can improve our lives by changing our thoughts, even if our environment remains the same.
It is our thoughts that make us.

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said: “We are what we think about all day long”.

How we experience reality is unique to each of us.

Alfred Korzybski discussed how we experience the world through our senses and use this external datum to build internal representations of the world within our brain.
As human beings, we can never know reality. We can only know our perceptions of reality.
We experience and respond to the world around us primarily through our sensory representational systems and we filter and interpret our experiences based on our beliefs, values and state of mind, so that they fit in with what we know. It is not about being right or wrong, but whether our interpretation is the most useful one for us right now.

In order to change we have to understand the basic rules we live by.
We have learned rules as we grew up: rules of life; social; religious; family.
These “learned” rules influence how we think, how we behave, and how we feel.

Change will occur once we have insight into this and are ready to change what we believe in, which will then trigger a change in behaviour .

But from where do such thoughts come from?
They arise from the Inner Mind or otherwise known as the Subconscious Mind. Each person has two minds, the conscious and the subconscious.

The conscious mind is the part of our mind that we are aware of right now. It is logical and connects us with our reality. It does all the thinking and guides us in making decisions.

The subconscious mind is the seat of our imagination, memories, emotions, dreams, behaviours and creativity. It is the most powerful part of our mind. It doesn't know right from wrong and is like an open tape recording that plays back what has been programmed into it. The subconscious mind contains all our memories and experiences, and controls our automatic thoughts and behaviours.

The subconscious mind is the sum total of our past experiences.

What we feel, think or do forms the basis of our experiences.
These experiences are stored in the form of subtle impressions in our mind.
These create habits and in turn determine our characters and are at the root of our self-esteem.Though a person is not consciously aware of it, these habits created by our past experiences, control the directions and limitations of our life.
The secret to helping people overcome their self-defeating thoughts and behaviours is by rewriting our beliefs about ourselves and our lives, to de -programme negative, unhealthy thoughts from our mind and re-programming it with positive, healthy ones.
An important aspect of this is making observations about those things we want to change about ourselves. Rather than trying to ignore them, or hoping they’ll vanish, it’s necessary to bring them out into the light of day, where we can see them.

Only when we are aware of something, do we have the power to change it.

I support the belief that we all have the resources we need to change.
Our success depends, though, on our choices.
A basic truth is that we have the power to choose how we will react to the events and situations in our lives, no matter what our circumstances are.

It is the quality of our choices that determine how we experience life.
